Continuous casting is the direct casting of molten steel into billets close to the final product size. After more than 100 years of hard exploration, this idea finally made the technology widely used in practice in the 1970s, and gradually formed today's continuous casting technology.

The main equipment is composed of ladle, tundish, crystallizer, crystallizer vibration device, secondary cooling and billet guide device, billet drawing and straightening device, cutting device, billet discharging device, etc.

Continuous casting simplifies the process of molten steel casting, shortens the process, and eliminates the processes of demoulding, whole mold, ingot soaking, blooming and so on. At the same time, the metal yield is improved. Using the mold casting process, the metal yield from molten steel to billet is 84% - 88%, while the continuous casting process is 95% - 96%, and the metal yield is increased by 10% - 14%.

The energy consumption is reduced, and the continuous casting process can save energy by 1 / 4-1 / 2 compared with the traditional process.

The high degree of mechanization and automation of the production process, the improvement of equipment and operation level, and the adoption of the whole process computer management have not only fundamentally improved the labor environment, but also greatly improved the labor productivity.

Improve quality and expand varieties. Almost all steel grades can be produced by continuous casting process, such as ultra purity steel, silicon steel, alloy steel, tool steel, etc. more than 500 steel grades can be produced by continuous casting process, and the quality is very good.

According to whether the crystallizer moves or not, it can be divided into two categories:

One is all kinds of continuous casters with fixed mold (including fixed vibration mold), such as vertical continuous caster, vertical bending continuous caster, arc continuous caster, elliptical continuous caster, horizontal continuous caster, etc;

The other is all kinds of continuous casters with synchronous moving crystallizer. The mold of this model moves synchronously with the slab, and there is no relative movement between the slab and the mold wall. It is suitable for producing slabs with small or thin section close to the size of finished steel, such as double roll caster, double belt caster, single roll caster, single belt caster, wheel belt caster, etc.

According to the shape of billet section, it is divided into:

Square billet caster, round billet caster, slab caster, special-shaped caster, square / slab dual-purpose caster, etc

According to the static head of molten steel, it can be divided into:

High head type, low head type and ultra-low head type continuous casters, etc.
