What is a continuous casting machine?

The production process of continuous casting of high-temperature molten steel into slabs with a certain cross-sectional shape and size is called continuous casting (CCM).

The equipment required to complete this process mainly includes continuous casting equipment, continuous casting machine body equipment, cutting area equipment, electromechanical-hydraulic integration of dummy ingot collecting and conveying equipment, etc. These equipment constitute the core equipment of the continuous casting machine, which is customarily called the continuous casting machine (CCM). Continuous caster classification

Continuous casting machines can be classified in many forms:

1. According to the structure and shape classification. Vertical caster, vertical bend caster, vertical bend caster with multi-point bending, arc caster with straight sections, arc caster, multi-radius oval caster and horizontal caster machine. With the development of continuous casting technology, the research on wheeled continuous casting machine, especially thin slab continuous casting machine, has been carried out.

2. According to the section size and shape of the continuous casting machine.

Continuous casting machine can be divided into slab continuous casting machine, billet continuous casting machine, bloom continuous casting machine, round billet continuous casting machine, special-shaped section continuous casting machine and thin slab continuous casting machine.

In the billet continuous casting machine, the rectangular billet continuous casting machine is also included. Usually the casting section or the equivalent cross-sectional area is more than 200mmX 200mm or more is called the bloom, and the section or the equivalent section is less than 160mmX160mm. The billet is called a billet. Rectangular blanks larger than 3 are called slabs.

3. If the continuous casting machine is distinguished by the number of strands that can be cast under a common tundish, it can be divided into single-strand, double-strand or multi-strand continuous casting machines.

4. On one continuous casting machine, according to the production requirements, the continuous casting machine that can cast slabs and simultaneously cast several strands of billets is called Fang, slab composite continuous casting machine or simply compound continuous casting machine.

CCM main equipment

1. Ladle

Ladle, also known as ladle, is a container used to hold molten steel for scouring and casting. The capacity of the ladle should match the maximum tapping capacity of the steelmaking furnace. The ladle consists of three parts: the outer shell, the inner lining and the injection flow control mechanism. The inner lining is generally composed of an insulating layer, a permanent layer and a working layer. The choice of lining refractory is of great significance to improve the quality of steel, stabilize operation and increase productivity. The ladle adjusts the flow rate of molten steel injection by opening and closing the sliding nozzle. The sliding nozzle is composed of an upper nozzle, an upper sliding plate, a lower sliding plate and a lower nozzle. The long shroud, also known as the protective sleeve, is used to protect the injection flow between the ladle and the tundish, avoiding the secondary oxidation of the injection flow, splashing and slag entrainment caused by open casting. At present, the materials of the shroud are fused silica and aluminum carbon.

In order to meet the requirements of the continuous casting process, the current ladle turntable tends to be multi-functional, adding functions such as blowing argon, adjusting temperature, tipping the slag, and adding a cover for heat preservation.

2. Intermediate package

The tundish is located between the ladle and the mold, and plays the role of decompression, steady flow, slag removal, steel storage, and diversion. The current requirements for the quality of steel products have become more stringent. The tundish is not just a container in production, but also plays an important role in the production of pure steel. In the application and development process of modern continuous casting, the role of tundish is becoming more and more important, and its connotation is constantly expanding, thus forming a unique field - tundish metallurgy.

The capacity of the tundish is 20%-40/% of the capacity of the ladle. under normal pouring conditions. The residence time of molten steel in the tundish should be 8-10min, in order to play the role of floating inclusions and stabilizing the cast stream. The size of the tundish mainly includes the determination of its height, length, angle and width.

3. Crystallizer

The mold is a very important part of the continuous casting machine, which is called the "heart" of the continuous casting equipment. The molten steel is cooled in the mold and initially solidified into the shape of the slab with a certain thickness of the shell, and is continuously pulled out from the lower mouth of the mold and enters the secondary cooling zone. The crystallizer should have the advantages of good thermal conductivity and rigidity, not easy to deform and wear-resistant on the inner surface, and should be simple in structure and easy to manufacture and maintain.

According to the shape of the mold, it can be divided into straight mold and arc mold. Straight molds are used on vertical, vertical-bend and straight-arc casters, while arc molds are used on full-arc and oval casters. In terms of structure, there are tubular crystallizers and combined crystallizers. Small billets and rectangles mostly use tubular molds, while large billets, rectangular billets and slabs mostly use combined molds.

The tubular mold has a simple structure, is easy to manufacture and maintain, and is widely used in the casting of small and medium-sized billets.

The process of complete solidification of the slab from the mold is called secondary cooling. The secondary cooling system device is also called the secondary cooling section or the secondary cooling zone, or the secondary cooling zone for short.

The role of the secondary cooling zone is reflected in the following aspects:

(1) After the billet with the liquid core is pulled out of the mold, it needs to be directly cooled by water spray or jet water, so that the billet can be rapidly solidified to enter the drawing and straightening area;

(2) Support and guide the incompletely solidified billet to prevent the deformation of the billet;

(3) It supports and guides the dummy bar when the dummy bar is up;

(4) For the arc-shaped continuous casting machine with straight mold, the first section of the second cooling zone bends the straight caster into an arc-shaped caster;

(5) When using a multi-roller straightening machine, part of the pinch rollers in the second cooling zone itself is a driving roller, which plays a role in drawing the billet;

(6) For the elliptical continuous casting machine, the secondary cooling zone itself is a segmented straightening zone.

The structural forms of the secondary cooling device mainly include box-type structure and room-type structure. At present, the newly designed continuous casting machine adopts the room structure.

5. Dummy device

The dummy bar is the "live bottom" of the mold; it is used to block the lower mouth of the mold before pouring; after the casting starts, the molten steel in the mold and the head of the dummy bar condense together; The billet is continuously pulled out from the lower mouth of the mold along with the dummy rod, until the billet passes through the tension leveler and is decoupled from the dummy rod, and the dummy device completes the task.CCM nozzle and torch has been successfully exported to customer in Iran.
